STN: Overview of the Amrit Bharat Project – The Amrit Bharat Project is modernizing 15 Kerala stations to improve infrastructure and services. This initiative is part of a larger effort to upgrade 508 stations across India.

Progress of Kerala Stations

In the Palakkad division, workers are upgrading 16 stations with a budget of Rs 249 crore. Officials expect to complete most stations by January, but Kannur will take longer since it joined the project late.

Nine stations have reached over 80% completion. Kannur station received the highest funding of Rs 31.23 crore, but the project has not yet started there.

Status Across Railway Divisions

Western Railway, which includes Mumbai, has the highest number of stations under the project, with 22 stations. Northern Railway, covering Delhi, follows with 21 stations. Southern Railway, which manages the Kerala region, is upgrading 17 stations, including the ones listed below.

Fund Allocation for Key Kerala Stations

The project has provided the following funding to major stations in Kerala:

  • Thiruvananthapuram: Rs 497 crore
  • Kozhikode: Rs 472.96 crore
  • Ernakulam Junction: Rs 444.63 crore
  • Kollam: Rs 384.39 crore
  • Ernakulam Town: Rs 226 crore
  • Varkala: Rs 133 crore

These stations will benefit from upgrades that aim to improve facilities and meet growing passenger needs.

Key Improvements in Kerala Stations

The Amrit Bharat Project focuses on removing outdated structures and introducing user-friendly amenities. Workers are installing the following upgrades:

  • New walkways, platforms, escalators, and lifts
  • Expanded parking spaces and modern restrooms
  • Commercial complexes for added services
  • Enhanced waiting areas with better facilities
  • CCTV cameras for better security
  • Public notification systems and Wi-Fi connectivity
