STN: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, also known as MMRDA, has taken the initiative to acquire standard gauge cars for the new Mumbai Metro Line 6. The new line will connect Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli Eastern Express Highway, covering an estimated distance of 15.31 kilometers.
In order to achieve this goal, the MMRDA has released a tender inviting interested parties to bid for the design, production, testing, and commissioning of the coaches for the elevated metro line 6. The contract period for this project is expected to be around 159 weeks. Moreover, the chosen agency will also provide training on operating these metro trains.
The estimated cost for the procurement of coaches and providing training, which excludes taxes, is approximately Rs 989.87 crore. The project is part of an integrated network of four additional metro lines, which comprises Line 2A and Line 7 of the Mumbai Metro that are currently in service.
The new line will traverse the city via Jogeshwari, WEH, and Powai, aiming to provide a comfortable and faster travel alternative to commuters. With an approximate budget of Rs 6,700 crore, the Mumbai Metro Line 6 project is expected to be completed in the coming years.
