Afcons Infrastructure completed casting the final tunnel ring segment for Delhi Metro’s Golden Line (Line-10) by December 2024. The 23.622 km-long Golden Line will connect Aerocity to Tughlakabad via 16 metro stations.
The company is responsible for constructing 6.981 km of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 project under Package DC-07. This section will connect Sangam Vihar Station and Sarita Vihar Depot. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded the contract for Package DC-07 to Afcons in January 2022. The project has a total value of Rs. 1,669.20 crore, with a completion deadline of 42 months.
Progress on Delhi Metro Golden Line
Afcons partnered with Cooper Turner Beck Group for segment casting accessories. The casting activities took place at Afcons’ yard in Mundka, starting in December 2022. Over the span of 24 months, the team completed the casting of 8,327 tunnel ring segments.
Four tunnel boring machines (TBMs) are now using these segments to construct twin tunnels for the Golden Line. Each tunnel ring is 1.4 meters wide and consists of five segments along with a smaller “key” segment.
Underground Stations and Tunnels
Afcons’ scope of work also includes constructing three underground stations:
- Maa Anandmayee Marg
- Tughlakabad Railway Colony
- Tughlakabad
At Tughlakabad, the Golden Line will interchange with the Violet Line, built during Phase 2 of the Delhi Metro project.
Afcons has already completed two of the eight planned tunnels. These tunnels connect the Air Force TBM Launch Shaft to Maa Anandmayee Marg Station. The up-line tunnel was completed in December 2024 using TBM Amrit (Robbins 372). The down-line tunnel was finished in early January 2025 with TBM Tejas (Herrenknecht S-711).
Ongoing Tunnel Construction
Afcons is also operating two additional TBMs – Herrenknecht S-1264B and Robbins 364. These TBMs will construct tunnels from Tughlakabad Metro Station to Tughlakabad Railway Colony Station and further to Sarita Vihar Depot.
The Golden Line’s completion will play a critical role in improving connectivity between South Delhi and other parts of the city.
