STN: KPC Projects Ltd. emerged as the lowest bidder for the construction of the Soladevanahalli Depot under the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP). This announcement was made by Karnataka’s Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) on Saturday.

Purpose of Soladevanahalli Depot

The Soladevanahalli Depot will play a crucial role in the operation of trains on the Mallige Line (Corridor 2). This 24.866 km corridor will connect Baiyyappanahalli Terminal and Chikkabanavara, covering 14 stations. The depot will be responsible for stabling and maintaining the trains operating on this corridor.

In addition to Soladevanahalli Depot, another depot is planned at Akkupet (Devanahalli). Both facilities will accommodate the project’s rolling stock, which includes 51 trains with a total of 306 coaches.

Contract Scope

The scope of work includes constructing a 1 km at-grade section between Chikkabanavara Station and Soladevanahalli Depot. Other tasks involve civil works, mechanical and electrical installations, roofing, signage, architectural finishes, sewage treatment, external drainage, internal roads, and boundary walls.

Tender Details and Financial Bids

K-RIDE issued a tender in September 2024 for the construction of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Depot at Soladevanahalli. The estimated cost for this project was set at Rs. 170.93 crore, with a 24-month completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in December 2024, revealing two bidders:

FirmBid (Rs. Crore)
KPC Projects Ltd.209.72
URC Construction Pvt. Ltd.213.41

KPC’s bid of Rs. 209.72 crore is 22.69% higher than K-RIDE’s estimated cost. This will require negotiation to finalize the contract. Negotiations could take several months, and if they fail, the tender may need to be reissued.

Future Plans for Akkupet Depot

A tender for the construction of the Akkupet (Devanahalli) Depot is yet to be announced. This depot will further support the operations of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project.
