STN: The Kolkata Metro has made significant progress with successful trial runs on its under-construction lines – the Yellow Line (Line 4) and the Green Line. These trials mark a step forward in expanding the metro network to improve connectivity across the city.

Trial Runs on the Yellow Line

The trial run for the Yellow Line was conducted on January 24, 2025. This stretch spans 7.03 km and connects Noapara to Jai Hind Biman Bandar (airport) metro stations, passing through four stations:

  • Noapara
  • Dum Dum Cantt
  • Jessore Road
  • Biman Bandar

The Yellow Line is part of a larger corridor covering 16.876 km from Noapara to Barasat, which will include 10 stations when completed. The General Manager of Metro Railway Kolkata, P. Uday Kumar Reddy, was present during the trial. He also inspected Dum Dum Cantonment and Jai Hind Biman Bandar stations to assess progress.

The successful trial run demonstrates readiness for the operational phase of this section.

Trial Runs on the Green Line

On January 21, 2025, the first trial run was conducted on a 2.63 km stretch of the Green Line, connecting Sealdah to Esplanade. Senior officials, including P. Uday Kumar Reddy, who also serves as Chairman of Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL), were present during this trial.

The trial run on the Green Line marks another achievement for the Kolkata Metro, moving closer to launching this section for public use.

Significance of Kolkata Metro Trial Runs

These trial runs on the Green and Yellow Lines highlight the progress in Kolkata Metro’s expansion efforts. Once operational, these lines are expected to improve transportation efficiency and reduce travel time for daily commuters.

The Yellow Line will connect important areas, including the city’s airport, making it a critical addition to the metro network. The Green Line, with its connection to central Kolkata, will also play a vital role in easing urban congestion.

The Kolkata Metro continues to focus on completing these projects to provide better connectivity for the city’s residents. Future trial runs and inspections will ensure the safety and functionality of these lines before opening them to the public.
