STN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched four new Amrit Bharat Trains in Bihar on July 18. These trains aim to improve connectivity in the region and offer affordable travel options.
The Amrit Bharat trains are non-air-conditioned and focus on serving passengers from low-income groups.
Operational Amrit Bharat Trains in Bihar
So far, two Amrit Bharat Trains have already been running here:
- One started in 2023. It runs between Darbhanga and Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi.
- The second began on April 24, 2025. It connects Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai to Saharsa.
The newly introduced services add to these and provide more travel options for passengers in the state.

The four newly launched Amrit Bharat Trains in Bihar will run on the following routes:

Features of the Amrit Bharat Trains
These new trains can reach speeds of up to 130 km/h. Indian Railways plans to build 100 more rakes under this model. The focus is on safer, faster, and more affordable travel.
The Amrit Bharat trains come with the following features:
- Air spring suspension for smoother rides
- Modern toilets, including accessible options for disabled passengers
- Semi-automatic coupler with crash protection
- EP-assisted braking system
- Sealed gangways between coaches
- Vacuum evacuation systems in toilets
- Talk-back units in every coach
- Fire detection systems
Focus on Inclusive Travel
Amrit Bharat Trains aim to provide better services to the middle class and the economically weaker sections. These trains show Indian Railways’ push toward expanding low-cost, safe, and reliable travel.
