STN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the final section of Mumbai Metro Line 3 on September 30. This last stretch runs 10.99 km between Worli and Cuffe Parade. With this launch, the line will connect the Colaba–Aarey corridor in full, making it the city’s first underground metro line covering 33.5 km.

Phase-Wise Development of Mumbai Metro Line 3

The development of Line 3 has taken place in three phases. The first phase began operations on October 7, 2024. It connected Aarey Colony to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

The second phase was launched on May 9, 2025. This stretch connected BKC to Worli. The final phase, from Worli to Cuffe Parade, will soon be operational after inauguration.

Together, these three phases complete the entire line from Colaba to Aarey Colony.

Safety Inspections and Approvals

Last week, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) began inspecting the final section. Once the inspection process ends and clearance is granted, the line will be ready for passenger services. The approval is the last step before full operations begin.

What the Launch Means for Passengers

When the last stretch opens, passengers will have direct metro access between Colaba and Aarey. The line will reduce travel time across South and North Mumbai, connecting residential areas with business hubs such as BKC and Worli.

The underground design is also expected to ease traffic pressure on roads and provide a reliable travel option for daily commuters.
