Alstom Secures ₹422 Cr Delhi Metro Maintenance Deal

STN: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has declared Alstom Transport India Limited as the lowest bidder for a ten-year Delhi Metro maintenance contract. The project covers the upkeep of metro trains, equipment, and depot housekeeping.

DMRC invited bids for this long-term maintenance contract with a duration of 3,650 days, which equals 10 years. The bidding process started earlier this year.

Bidding Process for Delhi Metro Maintenance Contract

DMRC opened the technical bids on 21 February 2025. Four companies submitted their proposals for this Delhi Metro maintenance project. These proposals underwent technical evaluation, which took place on 9 July 2025.

After evaluating the bids, DMRC rejected submissions from two firms. On the same day, DMRC opened the financial bids of the remaining two participants. Alstom Transport India Limited emerged as the lowest bidder.

Scope of Work in the Delhi Metro Maintenance Project

The ten-year agreement will cover the comprehensive annual maintenance of Bombardier make metro trains. The contract also includes maintaining associated machines, plants, and carrying out housekeeping at the Badli depot.

DMRC’s maintenance contract aims to ensure smooth, uninterrupted operation of metro services. The chosen contractor will take full responsibility for preventive and corrective maintenance. This includes both routine checks and unplanned repairs.

Additionally, the contractor must maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of all assigned train units and equipment. The depot infrastructure at Badli also falls under the maintenance scope.

Alstom is already involved in multiple metro and rail projects across India. The company has supplied and maintained trains for various city metros, including Lucknow, Chennai, and Kochi. This new project strengthens its presence in Delhi’s urban transit sector.

Alstom’s bid value of ₹422.1 crore reflects a competitive offer compared to the second bidder, SMH Rail, whose bid stood at ₹860.7 crore. With this contract, Alstom will take charge of ensuring reliability, safety, and cleanliness for a significant part of the Delhi Metro’s fleet.
