Arun Soil Lab Wins Lucknow Metro Line-2 Geotechnical Contract

STN: Arun Soil Lab Pvt. Ltd. has secured a contract worth ₹58.76 lakh to conduct geotechnical investigations for the Lucknow Metro Line-2 project. The study covers an 11.165 km stretch of the Phase 1B project, which will connect Charbagh Railway Station and Vasant Kunj through 12 stations.

The geotechnical investigation under package LKGS-01 is a crucial step in the development of Line-2. The aim is to gather detailed data on the sub-soil to support the design of structures and ensure safe construction practices. The collected data will help identify suitable machinery and methods for minimizing potential damage to existing structures.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) floated the tender for this geotechnical investigation in August 2024 with an estimated cost of ₹77.21 lakh and a 90-day completion deadline.

In October 2024, technical bids were opened, revealing 11 participating firms. Six firms were disqualified, leaving five in the race. Financial bids were opened on January 10, 2025. The results showed Arun Soil Lab Pvt. Ltd. as the lowest bidder with a winning bid of ₹58.76 lakh.

Future Steps for Lucknow Metro Line-2

This geotechnical study is one of several pre-construction activities for the Metro Line-2. The Phase 1B project received approval from the Uttar Pradesh government in January 2024, with an estimated cost of ₹5,801.05 crore. However, it is still awaiting final approval from the Central Government’s Public Investment Board (PIB) under the Finance Ministry.

Construction for the east-west corridor, which includes the Charbagh to Vasant Kunj stretch and the depot at Hardoi Road, is unlikely to begin before Q2 2026.
