STN: The Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line has achieved another significant step with the beginning of Oscillation Trials for its train sets. On 9 September, the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) from Lucknow initiated both the oscillation trials and Emergency Braking System (EBS) tests on the Yellow Line. This line stretches 19.15 km, connecting RV Road and Bommasandra as part of Bengaluru Metro Phase 2.
These trials are expected to take about 12-15 days. Once the oscillation tests are complete, the RDSO will submit its report. Following this, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will seek approval from the Railway Board. After securing this approval, the final inspection of the Yellow Line will be conducted by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
The Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line will use driverless train sets. Initially, in 2019, BMRCL signed a contract with CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. Ltd. for the rolling stock. However, delivery delays occurred due to various challenges. To address these delays, CRRC entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Titagarh Rail Systems. Under this MoU, Titagarh will produce 34 of the 36 trainsets required, each consisting of six coaches.
In February, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. Ltd. delivered a prototype six-coach train set for the Yellow Line. On 8 May 2024, Titagarh Rail started producing trainsets, with the first delivery expected soon. The addition of these trainsets will help meet the project’s deadlines, ensuring the smooth operation of the Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line.
