Centre Allocates ₹10,000 Crore to Upgrade Bihar’s Rail Network

STN: In the Union Budget 2025-26, the central government has allocated ₹10,000 crore to improve Bihar rail infrastructure. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this during a visit to Samastipur district in Bihar. The announcement was made at the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ ceremony for a new level crossing near Karpoori Gram railway station.

Focus on Bihar Rail Infrastructure

While addressing the event, the Railway Minister said that the funds will be used for several ongoing and new rail projects in the state. He mentioned that this investment reflects the central government’s commitment to upgrading Bihar’s rail network.

As part of this development, Karpoori Gram railway station will now come under the Samastipur railway division. Earlier, it was part of the Sonpur division. Vaishnaw confirmed that this change was a long-pending request that has now been approved.

The minister also inaugurated new passenger facilities at Karpoori Gram station. These include improvements in basic services to make travel more convenient for daily commuters.

New Train Services and Infrastructure Projects

The Railway Minister also announced the introduction of four Amrit Bharat trains for Bihar. These trains will improve long-distance connectivity from the state. The upcoming train services are:

  • A daily train from Patna to Delhi
  • A weekly train from Darbhanga to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar)
  • A weekly train from Malda to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar)
  • A train from Saharsa to Amritsar

In addition to new train routes, several major rail projects have been announced. These aim to expand capacity and improve service in different parts of Bihar.

Key Railway Projects

  • Bhagalpur-Jamalpur third rail line: ₹1,156 crore, covering 53 km
  • Bakhtiyarpur-Rajgir-Tilaiya doubling project: ₹2,017 crore, covering 104 km
  • Rampurhat-Bhagalpur doubling project: ₹3,000 crore, spanning 177 km

These projects are expected to ease congestion, improve travel time, and boost economic activities in the region.

Digital and Tech Infrastructure Additions

The central government also announced the setup of two new Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs) in Bihar. These facilities are designed to support the digital growth of the state.

  • STPI Patna (Patliputra new building): Investment of ₹53 crore
  • STPI Darbhanga: Cost of ₹10 crore

According to the minister, these STPIs will create new job opportunities and support tech startups and businesses in Bihar.

Strengthening Bihar Rail Infrastructure

These announcements signal a major push to modernise Bihar rail infrastructure. The funds will be used for doubling of lines, new routes, and better facilities for passengers. The aim is to improve both speed and safety across the state’s railway network.

With these steps, the central government hopes to create better rail and digital connectivity in Bihar. These investments are likely to play an important role in the state’s development in the coming years.
