STN: The full Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is now open for passengers. The service runs from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. With this, the entire 82-kilometer stretch is operational.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the complete corridor on February 22, 2026. The event took place at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station in Meerut. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present.
The Prime Minister flagged off the Namo Bharat train and the Meerut Metro service. After the flag-off, both leaders travelled by metro from Shatabdi Nagar to Meerut South station.
This marks the completion of India’s first fully operational Regional Rapid Transit System corridor.

The newly opened 5-kilometer section connects Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi. The 21-kilometer stretch connects Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
Construction of the corridor began in June 2019. After years of work, the full Delhi-Meerut RRTS route is now available to the public.
How Delhi-Meerut RRTS Will Help Daily Commuters
The Delhi-Meerut RRTS aims to reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut. Earlier, road travel could take more than two hours during peak traffic. Now, passengers can complete the journey in less than one hour.
The trains run at high speed and follow a fixed schedule. This helps office workers, students, and business travellers plan their day better.
Before the full inauguration, a 55-kilometer section was already operational. Around 60,000 passengers were using it daily. With the entire corridor now open, ridership is expected to increase.
Experts estimate that daily passenger numbers may reach 1.67 lakh within the first year of full operations.
The corridor also connects key areas such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, and Modinagar. This improves regional transport between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
Meerut Metro Now Operational
With the launch of the Meerut Metro, Meerut has joined the list of metro cities in Uttar Pradesh.

- Ghaziabad

The Meerut Metro covers 23 kilometers in Phase 1 and includes 13 stations. It operates along with the Delhi-Meerut RRTS network, offering fast and direct connectivity within the city.
Development Projects Worth ₹12,930 Crore
During the event, the Prime Minister also dedicated development projects worth ₹12,930 crore to the nation.
The inauguration event started around 12:30 PM with the flag-off ceremony. Around 1:00 PM, the Prime Minister formally dedicated the projects.
The completion of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is seen as a major step in regional transport planning. It connects the national capital with a major city in western Uttar Pradesh through a high-speed rail system.
