STN: India’s newest aviation hub, Noida International Airport, has achieved a major milestone. The airport has officially received its aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This approval clears the airport for public flight operations once the final operational preparations are completed.

The licence has been issued to Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), the company responsible for developing and operating the airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh. With this regulatory clearance now in place, the airport is moving closer to welcoming its first commercial flights.

The development marks an important step for aviation infrastructure in the National Capital Region (NCR) and is expected to significantly boost connectivity, tourism, and economic activity in western Uttar Pradesh.

DGCA Approval for Noida International Airport

The DGCA aerodrome licence confirms that Noida International Airport meets the safety, operational, and infrastructure standards required to handle aircraft operations.

Before granting the licence, aviation authorities carried out a detailed inspection of several critical areas, including:

  • Runway and taxiway infrastructure
  • Air traffic control facilities
  • Safety and rescue services
  • Passenger handling systems
  • Navigation and communication equipment

Once these requirements were verified, the DGCA approved the airport for aerodrome operations. This licence is a mandatory step before commercial airline services can begin.

The licence allows the airport operator to proceed with the final stages of preparation, including operational testing and airline coordination.

Commercial Flights from Noida International Airport Expected Soon

With the licence now issued, Noida International Airport is entering its final preparation phase before opening to passengers.

Airport authorities are currently working on:

  • Completing terminal operational readiness
  • Finalizing airline schedules
  • Conducting trial operations
  • Preparing ground handling services

Industry experts believe that commercial passenger flights could begin soon after these steps are completed.

Once operational, the airport is expected to ease congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, which currently handles the majority of air traffic in the region.

The new airport will also serve passengers from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, western Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Haryana and Rajasthan.

A Major Aviation Project for the National Capital Region

The Noida International Airport project is one of the largest greenfield airports being developed in India. Located in Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, the airport is designed to become a major aviation gateway for North India.

In its first phase, the airport will include:

  • A large passenger terminal
  • One runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft
  • Cargo handling facilities
  • Modern passenger processing systems

Future expansion phases will add more runways and terminals as passenger demand grows.

Once fully developed, the airport is expected to handle tens of millions of passengers every year, making it one of the largest airports in the country.

Economic and Connectivity Benefits

The launch of Noida International Airport is expected to bring major economic benefits to the region.

Improved air connectivity will support:

  • Tourism growth
  • International trade and cargo movement
  • Business travel
  • Regional development

Several infrastructure projects are also being developed around the airport, including expressways, metro connectivity, and logistics hubs.

These developments are expected to transform the Jewar region into a major economic and aviation hub in the coming years.
