Geotechnical Work Begins for Bangalore Metro Phase 3

1 99

STN: SECON Pvt. Ltd. has begun the geotechnical soil investigation work on Magadi Road for the 44.65 km Bangalore Metro Phase 3 project. This step plays a crucial role in preparing for the construction of new metro lines in western Bengaluru. Two months ago, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) awarded four geotechnical investigation contracts with a five-month deadline.

Contract Awards for Bangalore Metro Phase 3

BMRCL awarded SECON Pvt. Ltd. two of these contracts, while Manglam Consultancy Services from Hyderabad and Myrtle Project and Consultancy received one each. This investigation will help design the Phase 3 structures, such as viaducts and stations.

Overview of New Lines in Bangalore Metro Phase 3

Bangalore Metro Phase 3 will include two new lines:

  • Orange Line: A 32.15 km route connecting Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase with 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
  • New Line: A 12.5 km stretch linking Kadabagare to Hosahalli with 9 stations.

The geotechnical work will provide the necessary data for constructing these lines.

SECON’s Involvement in the Project

SECON will handle two key sections:

  • Package 2: They will carry out soil investigation from Mysore Road Station to Kanteerava Studio Station, covering 10.6 km to 21.2 km.
  • Package 3: They will manage the section from Kanteerava Studio Station to Kempapura Station, covering 21.2 km to 31.2 km.

Why is the Geotechnical Investigation Important?

This soil investigation will offer critical data that infrastructure companies need to design the line’s structures. BMRCL will include these reports in the civil construction tender documents, helping companies make accurate bids and select suitable machinery and construction methods. Proper soil data will ensure the structures suit the ground conditions along the metro routes.

Project Timeline

The Central Government approved Phase 3 in August 2024. BMRCL expects to publish the first civil tender notice for construction in the first quarter of 2025. The start of geotechnical work indicates that the project is on track.
