STN: The joint venture of Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. and Tata Projects Ltd. (HCC – TPL JV) has started construction on Indore Metro’s Underground Package IN-05R. The initial work includes secant piling at Indore Airport.
This development follows the award of a ₹2,190.91 crore contract to HCC – TPL JV by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MPMRCL) about four months ago.
Scope of Work for Indore Metro’s Underground Package IN-05R
The underground section is part of the Yellow Line. It will cover 8.626 km between Indore Railway Station and Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport. The contract includes twin tunnels and seven underground stations.
The stations are:
- Indore Railway Station
- Rajwada
- Chota Ganpati
- Bada Ganpati
- Ramchandra Nagar
- BSF / Kalani Nagar
- Indore Airport
This is the only underground package in the 33.53 km Phase 1 of the Indore Metro project.

The underground section connects to Package IN-04 on one end. This part is being built by RVNL – URCC JV. On the other end, it links to Package IN-03, where URCC is the subcontractor.
HCC holds 55% of the total project value. Tata Projects holds the remaining 45%.
The joint venture will use four tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for the job. The supplier is likely to be Terratec. However, it is not clear whether the machines will be new or refurbished.
Tunneling work may begin in the third quarter of 2026. Currently, civil work is active on all six packages of the Yellow Line.
