STN: Jindal Steel has achieved a new milestone in India’s steel sector. The company has commissioned a 5 MTPA blast furnace at Angul in Odisha. The commissioning of Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace – II marks an important step in the company’s expansion journey.

Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel, led the ceremonial “blow-in.” With this, Angul now stands as the largest single-location steel facility in the country.

Features of the Blast Furnace at Angul

The Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace has a useful volume of 5,499 m². It is one of the largest in the world. The unit combines advanced automation, high safety standards, and sustainability practices.

According to Mr. Naveen Jindal, the commissioning of this blast furnace doubles Angul’s capacity to 12 MTPA. He added that this expansion strengthens the company’s global presence and supports India’s goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

  • A dedicated port at Paradeep
