STN: The development of the Nagpur Metro Phase 3 project has taken a major step forward. Maha-Metro has confirmed the finalisation of a new corridor that will connect Sitabuldi to Koradi. This decision is part of the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), which focuses on improving public transport and easing traffic congestion in Nagpur.

Details of the Nagpur Metro Phase 3 Corridor

On 27 July 2025, a high-level meeting was held with senior officials, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. During the meeting, Maha-Metro officials confirmed the decision to move ahead with the Sitabuldi–Koradi corridor.

The new corridor will cover a stretch of 11.5 km, linking Sitabuldi to Koradi. This project is a key part of CMP Phase 1, which also includes another proposed line, the Mankapur Chowk–Rachana Junction corridor spanning 25 km.

However, the Sitabuldi–Koradi corridor has been given priority. Officials explained that this route was selected after reviewing Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic (PHPDT) assessments. The traffic studies and ridership forecasts showed that this corridor is feasible for metro operations.

Expected Ridership and Future Expansion

By the year 2054, the Sitabuldi–Koradi corridor under Nagpur Metro Phase 3 is expected to serve around 147,000 daily commuters. This will help reduce the pressure on road traffic and offer citizens a faster, safer, and more reliable travel option.

Maha-Metro also shared that there is a proposal for Nagpur Metro Phase 4. While discussions have started, the specific routes for this phase have not yet been announced.

Why the Sitabuldi–Koradi Corridor Was Prioritised

The corridor was finalised based on ridership demand and traffic flow patterns. Officials highlighted that the feasibility studies clearly showed the need for this connection. Koradi is a fast-growing area, and Sitabuldi is already a central hub in Nagpur. The metro line between these points will connect key residential and commercial areas, ensuring better connectivity for daily commuters.

Estimated Project Cost

The total estimated cost for the projects under CMP Phase 1, including the two new corridors, is ₹8,625 crore. While detailed funding plans are yet to be shared, the state government and central government are expected to support the project alongside Maha-Metro.
