Mumbai (Smart Transport News): The Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg) depot will be built on 15 hectares of land that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMMRDA) will purchase. Officials with knowledge of the matter say that the state government has instructed Mumbai’s Suburban Collector to locate the Kanjurmarg site in order to establish the depot.
The elevated Metro Line 6 has more than 66% of its construction completed. In order to discuss the Kanjurmarg site, the MMRDA got in touch with the state government. Only after the depot building is complete can the metro line be put into service. The Metro 6 depot was once thought to be located at Kanjurmarg.
However, the past administration under Uddhav Thackeray built an integrated depot rather than relocating the Metro Line 3 depot to Kanjurmarg. Due to a dispute over land ownership, the initiative was stopped by involvement from the national government.
An official from the Mumbai Suburban Collector’s office stated that all paperwork would be completed this week.
The Eknath Shinde-led administration then relocated the Metro Line 3 facility to Aarey. The Metro 6 depot, however, remained a source of controversy. Thus, a decision was ultimately made by the state administration.
Rajendra Bhosale, the district collector for Mumbai’s suburbs, claims that “the state directed to hand over the land to the MMRDA after verifying the court case.” He added that the state asserts possession of land when it is disputed who owns it.
They have decided to transfer the piece of land, though. It was asked the Advocate General’s opinion, which stated that a case had been put on hold due to adjacent property. A writ petition for this piece of property has been settled because the MMRDA cancelled the project for the depot on 102 hectares of land. MMRDA is simply asking for 15 hectares.
The Mumbai Suburban District office will get an undertaking from the MMRDA as the following stage. The fact that they will manage any pending legal action or necessary payments will be emphasised.
