STN: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has given new contracts for station finishing works. These contracts will shape 13 elevated stations on the Mumbai Metro Line-6. The project stretches over 15.18 km. It will link Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) and Vikhroli. The work focuses on the architectural finishing of stations and nearby areas.

MMRDA awarded three separate packages. Each package covers station work and additional site development tasks. The work includes the installation of pre-engineered building (PEB) roofs. All contracts carry a strict 24-month deadline. The contractors must start work on February 1, 2025.

Mumbai Metro Line-6: Detailed Contract Packages

Package CA-264 on Mumbai Metro Line-6

The first package goes to SS SS Constructions. They have a contract worth Rs. 76.68 crore. They work on three stations. The stations are located at IIT Powai, Kanjur Marg (W), and Vikhroli (EEH). J Kumar Infraprojects now constructs these sections. SS SS Constructions must handle design, supply, and erection. They also install roof sheeting. They add external facades and work on water supply, drainage, and sanitation. Site development around the stations is part of their tasks.

The second package goes to NA Construction. They received a contract worth Rs. 124.41 crore. Their work involves five stations. The stations include Mahakali Caves, SEEPZ Village, Saki Vihar Road, Rambaug, and Powai Lake. The contract covers design and fabrication of PEB roofs. NA Construction also builds facades. They install water and sanitation systems. They manage drainage and develop the site around each station. MBZ – EIIL JV oversees the construction at these stations.

The third package is awarded to Landmark – Neev JV. Their contract is worth Rs. 165.93 crore. They work on five stations. The stations are Swami Samarth Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Jogeshwari (W), JVLR, and Shyam Nagar. They work on architectural finishes and handle design, supply, and erection of PEB structures. They also install external facades. This work includes water supply, drainage, and sanitation installations. J Kumar – CRTG JV manages the construction work at these stations.

Bidding and Timeline Updates

Initially, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) invited bids in August 2023. These bids covered similar packages. However, MMRDA cancelled them. MMRDA re-invited the bids in August 2024. They opened the technical and financial bids in September 2024. The contracts were finalized in January 2025.

Each contractor must finish their tasks within 24 months. The start date is fixed as February 1, 2025. The teams now work under strict deadlines. MMRDA monitors progress carefully. This ensures the project moves forward as planned.

The bids were delayed by earlier complications. However, MMRDA now takes charge. They work to ensure quality and on-time completion. The project will complete its station works by early 2027.

Mumbai Metro Line-6: Future Project Developments

MMRDA also re-invited bids for the rolling stock and signaling work. This contract, known as Package CA-232, opened in February 2024. Critical systems still need to be procured. MMRDA plans to complete all systems soon. These steps will help start commercial operations.

Analysts now see Mumbai Metro Line-6 opening no sooner than Q4 2027. The delays mirror issues seen in earlier projects. Similar delays affected the Green Line (Line-4/4A). Civil contracts for that line began in 2018-19, yet work continues.

The new contracts aim to reduce delays. MMRDA works hard to keep the project on schedule. Contractors follow a strict timeline. The agency takes steps to improve future work. They monitor all progress closely.
