STN: The Public Investment Board (PIB) has approved two new Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors that will link Delhi with important cities across Haryana. These projects will now move to the Union Cabinet for the final approval stage. The two corridors aim to improve daily travel and support fast movement between Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari, Sonipat, Panipat, and Karnal.
The two projects together require an estimated investment of Rs 65,000 crore.
RRTS Corridors in NCR: Projects Approved by PIB
The PIB has cleared the following two RRTS Corridors in NCR:
| Project | Length | Estimated Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Sarai Kale Khan–Bawal RRTS corridor | 93 km | Rs 32,000 crore |
| Sarai Kale Khan–Karnal RRTS corridor | 136 km | Rs 33,000 crore |
Both corridors start from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, which is the key terminal for the RRTS network.
RRTS Corridors in NCR: Delhi to Bawal Route
The Sarai Kale Khan–Bawal RRTS corridor will cover the southern part of Haryana.
It will pass through areas such as Manesar and Bawal. These are major industrial zones.
The corridor will mostly follow the route along NH-8.
The first phase will run from Delhi to the SNB Urban Complex near Bawal.
The stretch will be about 107 km long.
It will include 16 stations.
Once the corridor extends further south, it will have around 22 stations.
This corridor is expected to support daily travel for workers and businesses in southern Haryana. It will also help reduce the load on highways and existing transport systems.
RRTS Corridors in NCR: Delhi to Karnal Route
The Sarai Kale Khan–Karnal RRTS corridor will move towards the northern side of Haryana.
It will run through Sonipat and Panipat.
The corridor will end in Karnal.
The detailed project report (DPR) for this corridor is ready.
This means work can begin soon after the final approval.
This route will serve thousands of daily commuters who travel between Delhi and the northern districts of Haryana. It will also improve access to major educational, business, and residential areas.
Current Status of RRTS Network
Right now, India has one operational RRTS line.
The Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor is already in service.
This corridor is 82 km long.
It connects Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
At present, a 55 km stretch between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South is active.
This section has 11 stations.
The success of the Delhi–Meerut line has encouraged work on new corridors.
With the approval of two more routes, the RRTS network in NCR will expand faster.
