STN: India is preparing for another milestone in public transport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the remaining 27 km stretch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor on 17 September. With this step, the full route will soon be available for passengers.

What is the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor?

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor is an 82 km long semi-high-speed rail project. It connects Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. The project is being developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

The aim is to provide a fast, reliable, and affordable mode of travel between these cities. Trains on this route, called Namo Bharat, can run at high speed and reduce travel time.

Current Status of Operations

At present, a 55 km stretch of the corridor is already in use. This section runs from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South and includes 11 stations. Passengers are already using this route daily.

In June 2025, NCRTC carried out a successful trial run of the Namo Bharat train across the entire corridor. The run followed a proper timetable, showing readiness for full operations.

Last-Mile Connectivity on the Corridor

NCRTC is also working to make travel smoother after passengers leave the train. To support this, NCRTC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uber. The plan is to offer last-mile services along the Delhi-Meerut route. This will help passengers easily reach their final destinations.

Delhi Metro Pink Line Extension

Alongside the RRTS inauguration, Prime Minister Modi will also open the Delhi Metro Pink Line Extension. This extension runs from Majlis Park to Majpur and adds 8 new stations.

The Pink Line is currently the longest metro line in Delhi, stretching 59.24 km from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar. Once the new extension opens, the Pink Line will form a complete ring around the city. This will improve connectivity between different parts of Delhi and reduce travel time for metro users.

Why the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor Matters

The full opening of this corridor will benefit thousands of daily commuters. It will reduce the need for road travel, cut down traffic congestion, and save travel time. For example, the travel time between Delhi and Meerut will reduce significantly once the complete corridor becomes functional.

It also represents a major step toward modern transport infrastructure in India.
