Kochi (Smart Transport News): On April 25, the nation’s first water metro service, Kochi Water Metro, will be launched by the honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The much anticipated project will be launched among other construction endeavours during a ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is expected to officially release the details of the Water Metro services, including a detailed schedule. The organisation in charge of carrying out the project, KMRL, has completed the preparations for the service launch. The construction of the terminals and boat testing are included in this.

Nine hybrid boats made by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) were put through several test runs prior to the project’s first phase’s launch on the High Court-Bolgatty-Vypeen route and the Vyttila-Kakkanad route.

The sources claim that KMRL was informed on Wednesday that the Water Metro would officially open. The details and date of the service’s official announcements would come later.

38 terminals are connected by 15 routes that have been built as part of the Water Metro project, which is spread among ten island towns and boatyards. The entire length of the routes is about 76 km.

Prior to now, KMRL had decided to restrict the service’s initial rollout to passengers taking the HC-Bolgatty-Vypeen route. However, as of right moment, they have decided to initially offer the service on the Vyttila-Kakkanad route as well.
