STN: Rahee Infratech Ltd. and Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd. have submitted bids to supply and install tracks for the Nagpur Metro Track Contract under Phase 2 of the metro’s expansion. This development followed Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) opening technical bids for the project on Friday.
Scope of Work in the Nagpur Metro Track Contract (T-02)
The Nagpur Metro Track Contract Package T-02 includes track installation across several segments. This package will cover both ballasted and ballastless track installations over a 43.8 km stretch, broken into specific areas:
- At-Grade Track Installation on Orange Line Reach 1A
The scope includes installing ballasted tracks within the 1.746 km at-grade section on the Orange Line’s Reach 1A, which spans from Khapri to Butibori MIDC ESR. This section is located between chainages 19550 to 21296.917 and will feature two stations, Eco Park Station and Metro City Station. - Elevated Track Installation on Orange and Aqua Lines
The package also requires ballastless tracks on the elevated sections of two lines:
- Orange Line Reach 2A – This is a 6.92 km stretch between Automotive Square and Lekha Nagar, which is currently under construction by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL).
- Aqua Line Reach 4A – This 5.33 km section runs from Prajapati Square to Transport Nagar. Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) was recently awarded the contract to construct this section.
Maha-Metro had released a call for bids in March 2024 with a budget estimate of Rs. 185 crore and a planned timeline of 2.5 years for completing the installation and commissioning of this track infrastructure.
Technical Specifications of Nagpur Metro Track Contract
The full scope includes the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of both ballasted and ballastless tracks as specified in the Nagpur Metro Track Contract. The work covers:
- The at-grade track installation for Reach 1A,
- Elevated track sections on Reach 2A and Reach 4A.
After the technical evaluation process, which can take a few months, the financial bids of the technically qualified companies will be opened. This will reveal the lowest bid and the contractor most likely to undertake the track work.
Previous Awarded Contracts in Phase 2
This bid represents the second track-work contract for Nagpur Metro’s Phase 2. Previously, in May 2024, Rahee was awarded Package T-01. This earlier contract includes the supply of ballasted tracks for Reach 1A, 1080-grade head-hardened rails, track fasteners, and turnouts.
