STN: The Bangalore Metro Pink Line project has reached a new stage. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has started third rail testing on the elevated part of the line. This test is happening between the Jayadeva and Tavarekere metro stations.
What Is Third Rail Testing on Bangalore Metro Pink Line?
The third rail is a key component that supplies power to metro trains. BMRCL has begun testing this on the Bangalore Metro Pink Line. This process is important before starting passenger services. The ongoing tests are part of the preparations to commission the full line between Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara.
The Pink Line stretches over 21.38 km and includes 18 stations. It connects the southern and northern parts of the city, easing traffic pressure and improving commute times.
Safety Measures in Place
To ensure public safety, BMRCL has issued a warning. People must avoid entering the viaduct areas during the testing period. The area can be dangerous due to live power lines and moving test vehicles.
Next Steps in the Process
After the third rail test, BMRCL will move to the next phase. This will include:
- Checking the signal system
- Running telecommunication trials
- Performing loading tests
All of these checks are needed before opening the Pink Line to the public.
Timelines and Inspection
These tests will take about four months. After that, BMRCL will prepare safety reports. The reports will be sent to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). Commercial operations can start only after CRS reviews and approves the reports.
Phased Launch of the Bangalore Metro Pink Line
The Pink Line is being launched in two parts:
Phase 1
- Route: Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere
- Length: 7.5 km
- Stations: 6
Phase 2
- Route: Dairy Circle to Nagawara
- Length: 13.76 km
- Stations: 12
Both phases are key to improving connectivity in Bengaluru. Once the full line opens, daily commuting will become faster and more efficient.
