STN: The Central Government has sanctioned the construction of the Rithala-Kundli Metro Line. This project is part of Delhi Metro Phase 4 and will span 26.46 km. The estimated cost for the development is Rs. 6,230 crore.

Key Features of the Rithala-Kundli Metro Line

This line will extend the existing Red Line, currently connecting Rithala to Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda. It will provide a crucial link between north-west Delhi and parts of Haryana.

Route and Station Details

The Rithala-Kundli Metro Line will mostly run through Delhi, covering 23.73 km with 19 stations. The remaining 2.73 km will be in Haryana, where two stations will be built.

The route will include stations at Rithala, Rohini Sectors 25, 26, 31, 32, 34, and 36. Other stops include Barwala, Bawana, Sanoth, and Narela. The line will terminate at Kundli and Nathupur.

A depot for train maintenance will be established near Sanoth and Bhorgarh village. The entire route will be elevated, ensuring smooth operations and minimizing land use.

Significance of the Project

This line will enhance connectivity across three regions: Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. It will also mark the Red Line as the first Delhi Metro line to serve three different states.

In Haryana, the Rithala-Kundli Metro Line will become the fourth operational metro corridor. The other three are the Yellow Line to Gurgaon, the Green Line to Bahadurgarh, and the Violet Line to Ballabhgarh.

Progress and Design

The detailed design for this project was prepared by Egis Rail SA in partnership with Egis India Consulting Engineers. Geotechnical studies for the route were conducted earlier to ensure structural stability.

This approval is part of the larger Delhi Metro Phase 4 expansion plan. A total of 112.42 km across six corridors has been approved for this phase. Out of these, 65.1 km of Priority Corridors are already under construction.

Future Extensions

Additional Phase 4 lines, including the Inderlok to Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block corridors, are awaiting construction tenders. Funding discussions for these lines are ongoing.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has supported previous Delhi Metro projects, may contribute to financing these developments.

Conclusion

The Rithala-Kundli Metro Line is set to play a vital role in enhancing regional connectivity. It will improve transit options for thousands of daily commuters. Updates on this and other Delhi Metro projects will follow as construction progresses.
