STN: The Haryana government has approved the extension of the Delhi-Alwar Namo Bharat Corridor up to Bawal. This decision reverses the earlier plan that limited the first phase to Dharuhera. The move aims to improve regional connectivity and support economic growth in South Haryana.

Delhi-Alwar Namo Bharat Corridor to Connect Bawal

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) confirmed the decision. The extension is expected to help thousands of daily commuters and promote industrial and logistics development in the Bawal region.

Union Minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh played a major role in pushing for this extension. He had objected to ending the line at Dharuhera and urged the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, to take the corridor further toward Shahjahanpur in Rajasthan. Singh highlighted Bawal’s importance as a growing industrial and logistics hub.

He stated that the corridor should ideally reach Shahjahanpur to ensure smooth inter-state connectivity. He also assured support for getting Union Cabinet approval quickly to begin the next phase of construction.

Official Approval and Key Developments

On September 26, HMRTC gave in-principle approval to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for extending the corridor up to Bawal. HMRTC Managing Director Chander Shekhar Khare said that any expansion beyond Bawal would depend on cost-sharing with other state governments.

Khare also mentioned that large-scale projects such as the Integrated Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (IMLH), the Manesar-Bawal Investment Region (MBIR), and the expansion of IMT Bawal were key reasons behind this decision.

The corridor extension is expected to reduce travel time between Gurgaon and Bawal. It will provide faster access to job hubs and industrial clusters while easing road congestion. The improved rail link will strengthen transport connections and boost business growth in the region.

Impact on Regional Connectivity

Officials said the new link will integrate the Delhi-Alwar Namo Bharat Corridor with major industrial areas across Haryana and Rajasthan. This includes Shahjahanpur, Neemrana, and Behror, which are among Rajasthan’s leading industrial zones. The project aims to create a seamless transport and economic network across both states.

The decision follows years of planning and several reviews. In August 2023, authorities planned the corridor in two stages, from Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi) to Dharuhera, and then Dharuhera to SNB. Later, meetings chaired by Union Minister Khattar and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recommended building the full stretch at once for better efficiency.

Initially, the government again decided to stop the line at Dharuhera. However, after further review, it approved the Bawal extension.

The original 2019 route along the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road was changed in 2023. The new alignment will run parallel to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-8) with 22 stations, including Cyber City, IFFCO Chowk, and Signature Towers.

The updated Detailed Project Report (DPR) is awaiting Union Cabinet approval. Meanwhile, NCRTC has already invited bids for a general consultant for the Delhi-Gurgaon-SNB section.

Expert View on the Corridor

Urban Infra Group MD and CEO, Mamta Shah, said that extending the rapid rail to Bawal is a strategic decision. She added that it will improve connectivity, ease commutes, and unlock industrial and logistics potential in South Haryana.

She also noted that linking economic zones under the Delhi-Alwar Namo Bharat Corridor aligns with India’s development vision under Viksit Bharat 2047 and supports sustainable urban growth.

The corridor is one of the three priority routes under the Namo Bharat network. It will cut travel time between Delhi and nearby regions while improving access to industrial areas. The Bawal extension confirms the government’s commitment to building modern, fast, and connected transport systems in North India.

With alignment plans finalized and construction preparations moving ahead, the project marks another step toward transforming South Haryana into a major connected and industrial zone in the coming decade.
