STU: On August 12, 2024, Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) – Gulermak JV started planning to begin with group of burrow ring portions for Line 2 of the Kanpur Metro tunnel segment extend.
Constructing twin tunnels will use these segments. Along the 4.08 km Rawatpur to Double Pullia underground section of Corridor 2. KPIL-Gulermak JV is responsible for this section under package KNPCC-11. It includes building twin tunnels and three underground stations: Rawatpur, Kakadeo, and Double Pullia.
To construct the twin tunnels, KPIL-Gulermak JV will use two tunnel boring machines. They expect to deploy S-1408A and S-1409A by 2025 in Kanpur Metro tunnel segment.
In December 2023, KPIL-Gulermak was awarded the KNPCC-11 contract, valued at ₹762.50 crore, by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation. The package has a deadline of 30 months. KNPCC-11 is the third underground package for the Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project, following Line-1’s KNPCC-05 and KNPCC-06.
Kanpur Metro Line 2 spans 8.38 km from Agriculture University to Barra 8, with a total of 8 stations. Construction work on the underground section officially started in April 2024. Recently, casting work of the mid slab below the concourse level began at Rawatpur Station. It will serve as an interchange station between Corridor-1 and Corridor-2.
