STN: Coal India Limited, a Maharatna PSU, has announced its support in the construction of the Shivpur-Kathutia rail line for faster transportation of coal from Jharkhand. This rail line will cover a stretch of 49.08 kilometres and is being built by Jharkhand Coal Railway Limited (JCRL). Through this initiative, the country’s largest coal miner aims to increase the coal transportation capacity of its subsidiary, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), by 25 million tonnes per annum.
JCRL is a joint venture of CCL, Jharkhand Government, and Indian Railways and aims to improve the coal transportation infrastructure in the region. By building this rail line, the focus is to improve the efficiency of coal transport and minimize the carbon footprint by reducing the dependence on road transportation.
The project is set to be commissioned by March 2025, and Coal India Limited has high hopes for it. It has also announced its plans to help construct railway lines in Odisha for faster coal transportation.
India has been struggling with power shortages for quite a while, and the need for efficient transportation of coal, which is the primary source of power generation in the country, can’t be stressed enough. The construction of the Shivpur-Kathutia rail line is a small step in that direction, but it’s an essential one.
With Maharatna PSUs like Coal India Limited coming forward to support the development of critical infrastructure, there is hope that we will be able to solve the power crisis. The company’s contribution to the construction of rail lines for faster coal transportation is a commendable move and will help take the country towards energy sufficiency.
As India strives to achieve its energy goals, establishing a robust transportation infrastructure for coal is going to be crucial. By building these rail lines, Coal India Limited is not only supporting its subsidiaries but also playing a vital role in the growth of the nation.
